"GREAT PROSTATE CANCER CHALLENGE"
5K Run/1 Mi. Walk Returns to Baltimore for 2nd Year, Based on 2007's Record-making Success!
Last year, more than 1,200 participants raised upwards of $125,000. A total of 88 men took advantage of free onsite screenings; nine of whom tested positive and are now receiving treatment. Participants included professional and recreational athletes, cancer survivors and generations of families, from great-grandparents to babies in strollers.
Based on this success, the 2008 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Walk is planned to be even bigger; with the American Urological Association Foundation coming on board along with last year's sponsors, Chesapeake Urology Associates and St. Joseph Medical Center.
As runners and walkers hit the pavement, a series of free prostate screenings will be offered from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Screenings will be conducted by Chesapeake Urology Associates urologists in a comfortable, private setting at the Cancer Institute at St. Joseph Medical Center. Participants must be age 50+, or age 40+ if African American and/or first degree of family history.
Proceeds will benefit prostate cancer research through the non-profit American Urological Association Foundation. Interested runners and walkers can register for the "Great Prostate Cancer Challenge" 5K Run/1 Mile Walk by calling Charm City Run at 410-308-1870 or visiting GreatProstateCancerChallenge.com or CharmCityRun.com
